Just For Men® Hair Dye Linked to Severe Allergic Skin Reactions

Sokolove Law is no longer accepting Just For Men® hair dye cases.

Just For Men® is arguably the most popular brand of men's hair coloring in the U.S. and has been for nearly 30 years. However, consumer-filed reports show that Just For Men beard and hair products can cause serious allergic skin reactions such as:

  • Severe Itching
  • Rashes
  • Swelling
  • Chemical Burns
  • Blisters
  • Sores

These skin injuries can be extremely painful and may lead to permanent scarring. If you or a loved one have been harmed by Just For Men while using the product in your hair, beard, or mustache, you may be entitled to compensation.

What Is Causing These Severe Reactions?

Just For Men contains p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), a chemical that is known to cause skin irritation, among other problems. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned the use of PPD in cosmetics applied directly to the skin, although it is still allowed in hair dye.

Just For Men’s product packaging and inserts advise users to perform what's called a "48-hour allergy patch test" where customers apply a small amount of the dye to a patch of skin on their arm to see how they will react to it. The effectiveness of this test is controversial for 2 reasons: 1) one’s facial skin and the skin of one’s arm have different sensitivities, and 2) those with darker hair are more likely to develop rashes – a warning that is not currently disclosed on the packaging or label.
