Hospital Privacy Breaches

Certain prominent hospitals and healthcare facilities disclosed patients’ personally identifiable information to third parties, including Facebook, in violation of state privacy laws.

Patients exchanged communications with trusted healthcare entities – even their own healthcare providers – about their medical conditions, treatment, and finances in confidence, and these healthcare entities were under obligation to keep such information private.  However, in a major breach, these healthcare entities shared this information and violated the privacy of many patients. Patients affected by this breach of trust may be eligible for compensation.

A Widespread Problem

Hundreds of hospitals and healthcare facilities in the following states may have unlawfully shared patient information:

  • California
  • Florida
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Pennsylvania
  • Washington

While privacy breaches seem like a common occurrence these days, this is a very serious matter. You may be entitled to compensation if:

  • You have a Facebook account
  • Your hospital or doctor’s office was one of the affected facilities located in California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, or Washington state
  • You have visited pages on the healthcare entity’s website and/or logged into a patient portal in the last 2 years

Take Action Today

If you have a Facebook account and visited a hospital or other healthcare entity’s website in one of the states above in the last 2 years, you may have a case. Contact Sokolove Law now for a free, confidential legal consultation.
